Questions

Ohio dispensary FAQs

How many dispensaries are in Ohio?

As of February 18, 2026, Ohio had 281 dispensary licenses, including 199 operating dual-use dispensaries that serve both patients and adults 21+. State law caps active dispensaries at 400.3

Are there recreational dispensaries in Ohio?

Yes. Adult-use sales began August 6, 2024 at dual-use dispensaries, which sell to registered patients and to adults 21 and older.73

Can I go to a dispensary without a medical card?

If you're 21 or older, yes, at a dual-use dispensary with a valid government ID. If you're 18 to 20, you need an Ohio medical card.7

Do Ohio dispensaries accept health insurance?

No. Health insurance and Medicaid don't cover cannabis purchases in Ohio.

Do dispensaries accept credit cards?

Usually not. Because marijuana is still federally controlled, most Ohio dispensaries take cash or debit cards, and many have ATMs on site. Check with the store before you go.

Do Ohio dispensaries deliver?

Not yet. Senate Bill 56 requires the state to create rules for delivering medical marijuana to registered patients. Until then, registered caregivers can pick up for patients.3

Can dispensaries ship outside Ohio?

No. Shipping cannabis across state lines is illegal, and marijuana bought outside Ohio's licensed system is illegal to possess in Ohio.3

Can I visit more than one dispensary in a day?

Yes, but the daily limit covers your total purchases for the day, not each store. Patients can buy up to 2.5 oz plant material and 15,000 mg THC per day, or up to four days' worth at once.4

Do dispensaries track how much I buy?

Yes. Every sale is recorded in the state's tracking system, and dispensaries check the registry before each medical sale.34

What hours are Ohio dispensaries open?

Hours vary by store and location. Most open in the morning and close by evening, so check the dispensary's website or Google listing before you visit.
